#otd in 2012 I overcame a major fear of being in open water and went snorkeling for the first time. With whale sharks. With Buzz Aldrin. In northwestern Australia on Ningaloo Reef in very rough waters. It was an incredible experience. One of those core experiences that changes you. I grew up near the pole of inaccessibility of North America - South Dakota - as far from the ocean as you can get on the continent. So being underwater is nerve wracking for me. But man, all my fear turned into awe when those whale sharks appeared in the water beneath me. I’ll never forget it. Now I’m certified to scuba dive and I hope to dive with whale sharks at some point. I can’t wait! #whalesharks #snorkeling #australia #ningalooreef
