When a couture house sells a plain black legging for the price of a flight to Paris, it is conceding something the rest of fashion admitted years ago: the black knit tube has become a trouser category. Lanvin's version is heavy viscose jersey, cut long and clean, and worn under a long coat or an oversized knit it passes every test a tailored trouser passes — which is precisely the promotion the legging has been working toward since it left the gym.
Judging one is unlike judging anything else on this site, because there is no cut to hide behind. No lapel, no pleat, no wash.
